Statement of Journalistic Organizations

2017, June 6, Yerevan

Vera Martirosyan, Reporter of sports section of News.am agency, was rejected to be accredited for covering the games of the Armenian national football team on June 4 and 10. In response to the reporter's query about the reason for rejection of accreditation, Hayk Karapetyan, Head of the Press Service of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), said that it was done by personal instruction of Ruben Hayrapetyan, FFA President. It can be assumed that the Federation President somehow does not like the way Vera Martirosyan writes about Armenian football.

Meanwhile, Vera Martirosyan has worked in sports journalism for many years, and her publications are known for creative and professional approach to the covered topic. In particular, in 2015, Vera Martirosyan was awarded the annual prize of the Yerevan Press Club “for a fresh look and a comprehensive approach towards sports”.  Rejecting her accreditation, FFA deprived the many thousands audience of News.am from the journalist's new and interesting publications about the national team games.

As this is not the first such case, we state that the rejection of accreditation based on the personal attitude is not acceptable and demand that such a practice when the FFA leadership restricts the activity of a journalist is excluded.
