{"id":29211,"date":"2026-07-23T11:29:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T11:29:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjc.am\/?p=29211"},"modified":"2026-08-17T11:40:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T11:40:03","slug":"how-civilnetcheck-tracked-the-stolen-election-narrative-on-telegram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pjc.am\/en\/how-civilnetcheck-tracked-the-stolen-election-narrative-on-telegram\/","title":{"rendered":"How CivilNetCheck tracked the &#8220;stolen election&#8221; narrative on Telegram"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Source of photo\u055d <a href=\"https:\/\/civilnet.am\/en\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/civilnet.am\/hy\">Civilnet.am<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the night of Armenia&#8217;s parliamentary elections this June, Arman Abovyan, a candidate for the opposition Prosperous Armenia party said in an interview\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/SolovievLive\/371866\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0on Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov&#8217;s Telegram channel, Solovyov Live, that a \u201cmass [electricity] blackout\u201d had begun in Armenia, which he claimed \u201craises certain suspicions, to put it mildly.\u201d The channel, which has more than a million followers, saw the post gather over 75,000 views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The claim had begun circulating minutes before polls closed, when several\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260714105005\/https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/aravot.am\/posts\/pfbid03L8W79zrBctg5s3VDGZWAtgJoRqEgCdA1VPUXYF3CeLggLXN6SPVAv959qbM1KTcl?rdid=9dZCWXxTL5PnWXyI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Armenian<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/YerevanTodaynews\/112563\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outlets<\/a>\u00a0published identically worded reports simultaneously, alleged that seven polling stations had lost power. Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), the country&#8217;s electricity distributor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/romanos.petrosyan\/posts\/pfbid02178afJ423a6K8QkLKonWh274FrAaETTEYi64doT6swCbTHTPZb8sGyy9fWqKLfesl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clarified<\/a>\u00a0that there had indeed been a brief emergency outage, but that power was restored within minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soon an even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/aravot.am\/posts\/pfbid026V4BQAe5vyvsZjF4xDeQh1cf5Euvhyoo5WNyeGKoA6F2HCGqrGBU3Jn3eohW87Fil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">longer<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/armenianvendetta\/48456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list<\/a>\u00a0began\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Yerkirmedia\/posts\/%D5%B0%D5%A1%D5%B4%D5%A1%D5%BF%D5%A1%D6%80%D5%A1%D5%AE-%D5%B0%D5%B8%D5%BD%D5%A1%D5%B6%D6%84%D5%A1%D5%A6%D6%80%D5%AF%D5%B8%D6%82%D5%B4%D5%B6%D5%A5%D6%80%D5%A1%D5%B5%D5%BD-%D5%BA%D5%A1%D5%B0%D5%AB%D5%B6-%D5%B0%D5%B8%D5%BD%D5%A1%D5%B6%D6%84%D5%A1%D5%A6%D6%80%D5%AF%D5%BE%D5%A1%D5%AE-%D5%A5%D5%B6-%D5%B0%D5%A5%D5%BF%D6%87%D5%B5%D5%A1%D5%AC-%D5%A8%D5%B6%D5%BF%D6%80%D5%A1%D5%BF%D5%A5%D5%B2%D5%A1%D5%B4%D5%A1%D5%BD%D5%A5%D6%80%D5%A81371\/1447052300800191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">circulating<\/a>, framed as \u201cwidespread power outages.\u201d ENA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/armenpress.am\/hy\/article\/1254375\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">officially denied<\/a>\u00a0the reports, calling them \u201centirely fabricated,\u201d and days later\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/factor.am\/1039641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed lawsuits<\/a>\u00a0against three media outlets. But the claim quickly crossed into Russian-language media as well, first appearing on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sputnikarm\/101727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sputnik Armenia<\/a>, then spreading to a number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/armenian_kaleidoscope\/296759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Telegram channels<\/a>, including Solovyov&#8217;s own, by then stripped of any reference to a specific polling station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An analysis of the roughly 900 posts shows they spread along predictable routes: starting as identical texts posted across different channels within minutes of each other that move from small, anonymous platforms up to Russian state media.
