The Public Journalism Club (PJC) is a non-governmental organization registered in Armenia, established in March 2011.

PJC’s mission is to promote the protection of human rights, fundamental freedoms, freedom of speech, and pluralism, and to support democratic processes and the strengthening of civil society through innovative media initiatives, public dialogue, and collaborative platforms.

PJC also plays an active role in regional peacebuilding and mutual understanding processes by involving representatives of various groups, communities, and broad segments of society in its programs.

Our key areas of activity are:

  • Shaping an informed society equipped with media literacy through educational programs, media literacy courses, training materials, and the creation of media content.
  • Combating misinformation and strengthening information resilience through empowering the media field, fact-checking, and public awareness.
  • Promoting peace and dialogue through initiatives aimed at combating discrimination, hate speech, and propaganda.
  • Developing journalistic skills through programs aimed at enhancing the abilities of journalists, media workers, and civil activists.
  • Support for journalists and media workers forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
  • Promoting civic participation and strengthening democratic oversight by creating broad opportunities for citizens and civil society organizations to engage, particularly in the areas of justice, electoral processes, and good governance.
  • Protection of human rights in closed institutions through reporting, raising awareness, public oversight, and promoting policy reforms.

PJC carries out its mission also through the activities of the Media Center, which since 2013 has become a steadfast supporter of civil society in Armenia, advocating through the media. The Media Center continues to be one of the unique platforms for public discussions, debates, and state-civil dialogue.

In recent years, PJC has also integrated the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) into its programs as an innovative method for peacebuilding and public dialogue. We strive to promote a culture of mutual respect, empathy, and constructive listening—especially in complex, conflict-laden, and polarized public discourses—contributing to a more inclusive and peaceful development of public debate.

In our work, we constantly strive for innovation, collaboration, and high professional standards, contributing to the creation of a culture where clear, verified, and balanced information serves the public interest and supports the strengthening of democracy.

Our mission is rooted in the core values of promoting freedom of expression, diversity, and pluralism. We are committed to building a media-literate society that fosters stronger civil engagement and supports processes leading to regional democratization, fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and peace.

Among our top priorities are:

  • Developing and raising awareness about public journalism
  • Encouraging active participation from civil society
  • Promoting and nurturing a collaborative culture
  • involving civil society, mass media, and the ICT sector

The vision of the Public Journalism Club is a democratic, peaceful, prosperous, and civically active, educated, and competitive Armenia, where civil society and the media exercise real oversight, and state institutions exercise real transparency and accountability.
