The Public Journalism Club has translated, edited and published the “Improving Social Impact” guide to help social entrepreneurs research and measure the social impact of their enterprises and create reports to improve the social impact of their enterprises.
This guide was prepared for social entrepreneurs who wish to maximize their positive impact and need a hands-on approach to meet that end. By saying “impact”, we mean making a difference in people’s lives. Maybe you already have a social enterprise or are planning to start one. The guide will be helpful in both cases.
JUST BEGINNING?
If you are planning to establish a social enterprise, this guide will help you to:
- understand the social problem you want to solve;
- develop the strategy and goals needed to influence a social problem (also known as a “theory of change”),
- To develop and revise over time your actions (products, services, advocacy, etc.) to ensure maximum social impact;
- develop an impact plan to collect data so you can constantly improve;
- plan data collection and analysis to understand if your strategy is working and can lead to recommendations to help modify, stop or expand your activities.
ARE YOU ALREADY IN BUSINESS?
If you already have a social enterprise, this guide will help you to:
- to check if you really understand what social problem you want to solve,
- to review and, if necessary, modify the strategy and objectives for influencing the problem,
- to change the organization to achieve your goals and ensure sustainability,
- to improve and constantly review your activities to reach the maximum social impact,
- to develop a data collection program necessary to improve services,
- to plan data collection and analysis to understand if the changes are working and can lead to “data-driven recommendations for change, termination or expansion.”
