Info-session: Hack2Check Hackathon 2024

📢 Attention AUA Students! Join us for an Information Session on the Media and Information Literacy Hackathon coming this MAY!

ℹ️ Purpose:

Are you passionate about media literacy, eager to combat propaganda and disinformation, as well as interested in Hackathons?  Join us for an informative session aimed at raising awareness about the upcoming media and information literacy Hack2Check Hackathon, scheduled to take place on May 25-26 at the AGBU Armenia premises.

During this session, you’ll gain valuable insights into the application process for the Hackathon and delve into the crucial topics of propaganda, disinformation, media illiteracy and the challenges within these topics that face Armenia.

💡 Featured Speaker:

We are honored to host Bret Schafer, a renowned expert based in the U.S. Bret serves as a senior fellow and head of the Information Manipulation Team for the Alliance for Securing Democracy, German Marshall Fund. He is the creator and manager of Hamilton 2.0, an online open-source dashboard tracking the outputs of Russian, Chinese, and Iranian state media outlets, diplomats, and government officials.

🎙️ Session Highlights:

Bret Schafer will be joining us remotely to share his expertise on modern manifestations of disinformation and propaganda. He will present international best practices in addressing these challenges, offering valuable insights for all participants. Bret will also be one of the mentors of the Hackathon.

📝 Registration:

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Secure your spot by registering here. The entry is free for students from other universities as well. Please note that the working language will be English, without Armenian interpretation.

To ensure a smooth start to our event at 16:00, we kindly request participants to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time for registration and preparatory arrangements.

About the Hackathon

The info-session is part of the Hack2Check Hackathon which aims to foster the development of innovative solutions to address media and information literacy challenges and combat computational propaganda in Armenia. By engaging young people, tech specialists, media practitioners, and media literacy experts, the program aims to raise awareness, build capacity, and create effective solutions to promote critical thinking and resilience against propaganda.

The project is implemented by the Public Journalism Club (PJC) & Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Armenia․ The project partners are  American University of Armenia (AUA)Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF) with its Gyumri and Vanadzor Technology Centers.

The project is funded by a grant from the United States Department of State.
